Bhopal, Jan.3 (ANI): In an attempt to set a world record for the longest singing session, Vasudev Sarkar, a 55-year-old singer, sang at a stretch for around 25 hours in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal city.

Sarkar said that he always wanted to do something special in his life.

"I had planned it long time back. I still have an interest in music. And we should do something that makes us feel we are doing something different in society. So, that is why I was thinking that we should do some programme like this, it is for greater achievement," he said.

Sarkar wants to be listed in this year's almanac of Limca Book of Records.

Nitesh Sonekar, who coordinated the accompanying orchestra, played for 25 hours without a break.

Sonekar said he didn't think it is possible at first and he wanted to give musicians a break. But the band insisted on playing for the whole duration.

"When the 25-hour opportunity came up, I wanted my band's support. I had planned to set up three teams doing 8-hour shifts. But my team said it would be a single team and they would play for 25 hours with Dada (Vasudev Sarkar). When I got this support I prepared and told Dada we would play with him," said Sonekar.

"The experience was good, I enjoyed working with Dada. All the songs Dada tried out were carefully chosen and there was no tension about how it should be done. We worked with a free mind and, being mere artists, he treated us like his family, which is why we enjoyed it more. The experience was so good that I do not think that I will ever get this opportunity again in my life," he added.

Sarkar sang a whole gamut of songs ranging from old melodies to patriotic and spiritual songs. (ANI)
