New Delhi, Jan 1 (ANI): In an endeavor to end the nuisance of honking, a non-governmental organisation 'The Earth Saviours Foundation' is observing January 1 as 'No Honking Day' with support of the Delhi Police here.

Ravi Kalra, President of the non-governmental organisation said that he would file Public Interest Litigation (PIL) for the implementation of the Supreme Court ruling in the matter, which is being violated.

"Because of traffic jams or the anger the people have in their mind, they blow up horns. It is like a cancer in the system. Actually horn is meant for emergency and if people want, they can always avoid it," said Kalra.

"Suppose you have a patient in your car and you need to rush to take him to the hospital, only in that circumstances you should blow horns. But here it is been seen that horn is actually being misused and the vehicular honking in our metropolitan cities causes 70 percent of the noise pollution," he added.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta said that noise pollution is having a very detrimental impact, which requires imperative need to eradicate it.

The Supreme Court ruling states that pressure horns are not permitted to blow near hospitals, traffic signals, traffic jams, schools and other no honking zones.

The major attraction of this anti honking campaign was the participating of two dogs disseminating a message saying 'even the dogs do not bark unnecessarily'. (ANI)
