Karnataka: Terror alert from high seas

Bangalore, Dec 27: Karnataka is facing a terror alert and security has been intensified for a possible terror strike in the state. According to intelligence reports, terrorists may enter the state from the coasts.

"A high alert has been sounded in the state, especially in coastal districts following an alert from the Centre" Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was quoted as saying after a high-profile meeting with officials in the Home Department on Monday, Dec 27.

Agencies have confirmed that these terror outfits might target places of worship and spots were a large number of people are likely to gather especially at the event of impending New Year festivities, revealed official sources.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa said that he has deployed additional paramilitary personnel to cope with any exigencies. Around 550 military personnel provided by the Centre and providing security in the wake of such a threat. Security has been beefed up especially in coastal areas as well as all reservoirs and malls following the alert.

State Home Minister R Ashok, Chief Secretary SV Ranganath, City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari, Principal Home Secretary KM Shivakumar and others attended the meeting. This comes soon after the Mumbai airport has been on alert following fears that Lashkar E Toiba terrorists have entered the city.
