X-mas holiday woes: Dense fog stops Delhi airport

New Delhi, Dec 26: Many people faced a massive sufferings during Christmas holidays as several flights have been cancelled and delayed from New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport on Sunday, Dec 26.

From the early morning on Dec 26, visibility dropped to near zero which affected flight operations and finally, which led to delays, diversions and cancellations of around 75 domestic and international flights.

Passengers were harassed a lot as many airlines delayed their departure due to dense fog. Airlines also cancelled their flights to Lucknow, Jaipur, Kullu, Mumbai, Leh, Amritsar, Patna, Chandigarh, Goa and Srinagar due to dense fog.

The cancelled flights from IGI to other places were -

  • Jet Airlines flight to Mumbai
  • Kingfisher Airlines to Chandigarh
  • JetLite to Raipur
  • Kingfisher Airlines to Amritsar
  • Jet Airlines to Chandigarh
  • Indian Airlines to Leh

On Saturday, Dec 25, Air India rescheduled its flights to New York, Chicago and Toronto after visibility dropped below the accepted limit.

Same stranded condition was seen in Mumbai airport also and long delays and the confusion angered passengers who even raised slogans against the airport authorities in Mumbai.
