Ahmedabad, Dec.20 (ANI): A three-day traditional food festival was organised by the Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI) here during the weekend.

The annual food festival aimed at promoting organic food products.

Ramesh Patel, one of the organisers, said the festival aimed to bridge the gap between healthy eating habits and fast food products consumed by the city dwellers.

"We have invited around 100 farmers who do organic farming. The motive of the food festival is to bring forward organic food cultivated by the farmers and the customers living in cities and town who are self- motivated towards organic food products get such products. This festival gives a platform for the cultivators and the buyers to interact and learn," said Patel.

People from all over the State visited the venue with many queuing up at the stalls where traditional delicacies like 'dal-bati' and sweets were served.

"We felt very good coming to the food festival. Our children and others belonging to this generation are far away from organic food. We did not know about such food products but these products are very good for health. As housewives, we are on a constant search for fruits and vegetables and this is very good for our children," said Rupal, a visitor.

One of the main attractions included breads, wheat biscuits, chocolate biscuits and ice creams made out of 'Saunf' (fennel seeds).

The festival chiefly focused on promoting the use of organic vegetables, grains, cereals and pulses. Oils like peanut oil, organic sugarcane packs, garlic, ginger, aubergine, amla (gooseberry), were some of the organic items available at different stalls. By Uday Adhvaryu (ANI)
