Man United thrashes Arsenal, reaches top in EPL

By Abdul Nisar
Old Trafford, Dec 14: Once again Arsenal failed to win the 'Big Matches.' In the Monday Classic English Premier League match, Manchester United defeated Arsenal 1-0 to regain the top spot in point table.

South Korean striker Ji-Sung Park scored the crucial goal of the match in the 41st minute. Park connected a deflected cross from Nani with a smashing header to the nets beyond the reach of Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. It was Park's sixth goal for United this season, his best tally since joining the club in Jul 2005.

Nani and Wayne Ronney's continuous attacks gave Arsenel's defence an acid test, even though both failed to score goals. Moreover, Rooney missed a penalty in 73rd minute when Clichy handled the ball in the penalty area.

Now, United leads the point table with 34 points, Arsenal with 32 points in second spot and Manchester City in third with 32 points. The former Champions, Chelsea, is in fourth rank with 31 points.

"These games are important. Arsenal were top of the league and we were in third, so it was an important result for us," said United manager Alex Ferguson after the match.

"Park Ji is a big-game player. He is a proper team player and we fully appreciate that. He stepped up today," United defender Rio Ferdinand said.
