New Delhi, Dec 7: Ruling opposition BJP asked PM Mamohan Singh, whether he was aware of the track record of PJ Thomas pending criminal prosecution, before the panel appointed him CVC. The panel that appointed Thomas as CVC also consisted of PM Manmohan Singh and Opposition Leader Sushma Swaraj from the Lok Sabha.

BJP attempted to know from the UPA why document related to the chargesheet of Palmolein case in Kerala pertaining to Thomas were not considered during his appointment.

“This doubtable track record of CVC was a relevant point to consider and a strong reason why he should not be appointed. The panel missing out the important records during his appointment resulted as a void," Opposition deputy leader of the Rajya Sabha, S S Ahluwalia, said.

Ahluwalia questioned, "Was the PM ignorant about the charges against Thomas? Were these documents shown to him?"

“If JPC is appointed to probe 2G Spectrum scam PM would also be summoned. We don't want to carry any pre-conceived ideas and the JPC makes the decision whom to call and not call," Ahluwalia said.

BJP stood its stand and demanded for the removal of Thomas, who was telcom secretary during 2G spectrum allocation.

Ahluwalia claimed, “now even UPA allies, T R Baalu (DMK), Mamata Banerjee (Trinamool Congress) and Sharad Pawar (NCP) are supporting JPC."

“It is the time to take action for government on CVC. They must seriously consider the CVC and take rightful steps to strengthen the institution," Ahluwalia concluded.
