Guwahati (Assam), Dec.1 (ANI): The Unified Command in Assam has fine-tuned a strategy to intensify operations against militants with special attention focused on the Assam-Arunachal border from where they operate.

The decision to rework strategy has been taken in the wake of the rebel National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) running amok in Assam.

Recently, the banned outfit gunned down 24 innocent civilians in the state's seven districts.

Last month, the rebels first targeted a passenger bus in Assam's Sonitpur District. NDFB activists forcibly brought out ten people from the bus and then fired on them indiscriminately.

The NDFB has been launching coordinated strikes, targeting mostly Hindi language speakers and people belonging to the minority community.

Attacks were launched in the Jamuguri village in Kokrajhar District and opened indiscriminate firing.

The killing of innocent people in Assam has shocked people in the region.

During a search operation in Guwahati, a joint CRPF and police team apprehended two NDFB militants with two RDX explosives that were intended for subversive activities in the city.

"What are these militants up to and why are they doing all this? Why are they killing innocent people as they can gain nothing from it? Even after the October 30 blasts, in which many people were killed, the outfit has gained nothing," said Sudha Kalita, a Guwahati resident

"I strongly condemn the incident, as killing of innocent people is not good. This shows they are narrow-minded and we do not support them. What they have done is wrong and they should be punished for it," said Deewakar Bora, another resident.

The NDFB has been involved in various illegal activities in Assam like kidnapping for ransom, extortion, and bomb blasts.

The security forces have arrested Ranjan Daiamary, the chief of anti talk faction of the NDFB.

The group has been in disarray since then and is desperately trying to prove that it still retains its operational capabilities. (ANI)
