Messi strikes; Argentina beats Brazil 1-0

Doha, Nov 18: Barcelona star striker Lionel Messi's injury time goal gave Argentina a 1-0 victory over their Latin American rival, Brazil, in a friendly match on Wednesday, Nov 17.

The Latin American football war an enthralling show to spectators as both teams showed classic attacks. Ronaldinho, making his Brazil return after nearly 18 months, tested Argentina's goal keeper Sergio Romero with his long rangers and freekicks.

On 16th minute of the match, Brazil was about to score, but striker Daniel Alves' shot from inside the area hit the bar.

Messi showed signs of an early threat when he combined some clever passes with solo runs.

When the match was heading for a goalless draw, the goal came in second minute of the injury time. 2009 world player, Messi went on a trademark run sidestepping two Brazil defenders before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Victor.

With this win, Argentina revenged Brazil for their 3-1 loss in 2009 World Cup qualifier match.

"Messi means everything to us. In the first minute, he showed why he's the best player in the world," said Argentina coach Sergio Batista.
