Jayalalithaa; real player behind DMK's loss?

New Delhi, Nov 16: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief Jayalalithaa played a crucial role in the resignation of former Telecom Minister A Raja and in losing telecom portfolio for her rival Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

DMK, a prominent alliance in Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), met with a great blow by losing the telecom porfolio. Congress handed it to Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal after A Raja's resignation in connection with the 2G spectrum scam.

DMK's loss can be regarded as a great win for Jayalalithaa. Her support offer to UPA made Congress to think for sacking Raja. When Union Minister P Chidambaram requested DMK chief Karunanidhi for resignation of Raja, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister threatened that all his ministers would quit the central government.

But when Jayalalithaa's "unconditional" support offer came for UPA, DMK forced to rethink about Raja. Meanwhile, BJP focused more on Prime Minister Manmohan Sigh and Sonia Gandhi for their silence in 2G scam. Hence, it became a prestige issue for Congress.

Later, Chidambaram periled DMK by saying the alliance during the Assembly elections. This time DMK understood that sacking Raja would be better than facing Congress-AIADMK alliance during Assembly elections.
