New Delhi, Nov.15 (ANI): Union Minister for Law and Justice Veerappa Moily said more fast track courts would be set up to ensure that no case remains pending for more than one year.

Delivering the 19th Sree Chithira Thiruval Memorial Lecture on 'Globalisation and Legal Reforms' organised by the Sree Chithira Thirunal Samskara Samithi in Thiruvananthapuram over the weekend, Moily said the Centre had envisaged a national litigation policy to reduce the pendency of cases in various courts.

Moily further informed that plans include setting up commercial benches in High Courts for the rapid disposal of cases involving sums of over rupees five crore.

Referring to the demand by the Kerala Government for a High Court bench, Moily said the state should first set up infrastructure for such a bench to exist.

"If the State Government takes the initiative, a high court bench in Thiruvananthapuram will become a reality," said Moily.

Moily also said that to improve the quality of law education, the Centre has decided to set up 14 new law school varsities, five regional research and training institutes for the faculty of law schools. (ANI)
