China Asian Games: Host country wins first gold

Guangzhou, Nov 13: The host country has opened its Gold account at the 16th Asian Games with Yuan Xiaochao grabbing the first gold medal in the men"s Wushu-Changquan form on Saturday, Nov 13.

Wushu is a full contact sport derived from Chinese martial art. The Changquan form, the long fist boxing, features imitations of animal moves. This is considered as the basic and main style of modern Wushu.

The 22-year-old defending champion clinched the gold after he enthralled the judges and the audiences with his swift moves and acrobatics, reported Xinhua.

“I know my parents must be watching me now through the live broadcast, and I hope they will be healthy," Yuan is quoted as saying.

The silver went to Japan"s Daisuke Ichikizaki with 9.72 points. Iran"s Peyghambari Ehsan won the bronze with 9.70 points in the men"s Changquan form.

Wushu, the sport originally founded by the Chinese, also comprises of Taolu with set routines, and Sanshou boxing, which is mainly free sparring.
