Manchester City failed to avenge for their last season failures against the neighbour rival. In last season United won both League matches against City. Both teams failed to attack and the much anticipated match ended in draw.
Manchester United controlled the first half of the match, where as, City impressed in the second half with attacks by Argentine striker Carlos Tevez. His free-kick in 39th-minute smelled an opening goal, but goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar saved it in an acrobatic style.
United star strikers Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs missed the match after injuries.
"I think City are difficult to beat on their own ground. That was obvious from the way they set their stall out in the second half, for us to break them down. They are very powerful and experienced that way. They are obviously going to be difficult to beat on their own ground," United manager Alex Ferguson said after the match.
"We tried to win because we want to win. When you play every few days, the players are tired. So I think a point is important. We're getting closer to United and need more time," City manager Roberto Mancini said.
