The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 20589, down 286 points and the 50-share NSE Nifty plunged 81 points to 6,194.
Even selling in Korean Composite Index in late trade put some pressure on Indian markets.
Mah and Mah, Tata Motors, BPCL, Reliance Power, who among the top gainers were at 3.24 percent, 2.57 percent, 1.57 percent, 1.46 percent up respectively.
DLF, Jaiprakash Asso, Cipla, Ranbaxy Labs, who among the top losers, were at 4.48 percent, 3.35 percent, 3.17 percent, 3.16 percent down respectively.
Nifty trades below 6300 mark amid volatility
Amid volatility, NSE Nifty traded below 6300 mark with negative bias in the afternoon trade on Thursday, Nov 11.
At 1:51 pm, the Sensex was down 89.78 points or 0.43 percent at 20785.93, and the Nifty was down 23.20 points or 0.37 percent at 6252.50.
About 1820 shares advanced, 1259 shares declined, and 370 shares remain unchanged.
Buying was witnessed in metal and consumer durables stocks, however, selling was observed in realty, oil&gas, telecom and IT stocks.
Reliance Power, Hindalco, Tata Power, Sesa Goa and Ambuja Cements, who among the largecap space, were 1-8 percent up.
Though DLF, Ranbaxy Labs, ONGC, Bharti Airtel and TCS, who among the largecap space, were 2-3 percent down.
Mkts slip into consolidation mode
Nifty has gone back into consolidation mode with rangebound trade between 6265-6295. Sensex also has dipped marginally. Since the Tuesday, Nov 9 closing highs, both the indices have been cosolidating.
At 11: 58 am, BSE Sensex was at 20,840.26, down 35.45 points and NSE Nifty was at 6,271.00, down 4.70.
Selling was seen in capital goods, technology and healthcare companies' shares as well as ONGC, Bharti Airtel, DLF, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, NTPC, HUL and Tata Motors.
The markets were, however, gaining support from cement, metal, private power and auto. Buying interest was seen in SBI, Axis Bank, IDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ICICI Bank and ITC.
Among the top gainers were Reliance Power up 6.77 per cent; Hindalco up 4.36 per cent; Kotak Mahindra up 1.74 per cent; Tata Power up 1.58 per cent; Ambuja Cements up 1.28 per cent; M&M up 1.55 per cent; Sterlite Industries up 1.15 per cent and SBI up 1.13 per cent.
Top losers were TCS down 2.06 per cent; DLF down 2 per cent; Bharti Airtel down 2 per cent; ONGC down 1.96 per cent and BHEL down 0.95 per cent.
Mkts open with marginal gains on +ve cues
On positive cues from US and Asian markets, Nifty opened the day with a positive bias. Following the slump over the past couple of day, the benchmark started Thursday, Nov 11 with marginal gains. Sensex was also trading in the green.
At 9:28 am, BSE Sensex stood at 20,880.07, up 4.36 points and NSE Nifty was at 6,294.05, up 18.35 points.
Heavyweights such as Reliance and SBI also supported the indices.
Among the early gainers were HUL, BPCL, Ranbaxy Labs, Bajaj Auto, M&M, Jaiprakash Associates, Cipla, ITC, Reliance Industries, Tata Motors, ACC, SBI and Tata Steel.
On the negative side, TCS, Bharti Airtel, Infosys and TCS were witnessing selling pressure, while DLF plunged 1.9 per cent on disappointing Q2 numbers.
