US polls: Indian-American Haley wins in Carolina
The Republican Nikki Haley became the first Indian-American woman to be US Governor. The early results of the polls showed that Republicans will will take control of the US House.
Nikki Haley defeated her Democratic rival Vincent Sheheen in a close race. US media reported that early results showed that Haley got 51 percent of the votes to Sheheens 47 percent.
Nikki Haley, daughter of Sikh immigrant parents from Amritsar, will be America's second Indian-American governor after Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.
In 2007, Bobby Jindal became the Governor of Louisiana and the first Indian-American governor in the United States.
