Indonesia volcano: Airlines suspend operations
As fiery lava bubbled inside the 2,914-metre high mountain and the hot smoke from the peak blackened the skies, scientists have predicted that the eruption could continue for weeks.
The peak first erupted last week just as the country was struggling to come to terms with the devastation caused by an earthquake-triggered tsunami. Over 30 people were killed in the first volcanic eruption.
Fortunately, Mount Merapi's later blasts have not led to any casualties.
