Sanaa (Yemen), Oct 31(ANI): Yemeni police have arrested a woman accused of posting parcel bombs on two United States-bound flights in an alleged Al-Qaeda plot thwarted in the United Kingdom and Dubai.

The arrest took place on Saturday in Sanaa after security forces surrounded a house where the suspect was hiding.

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh said that the United States and the United Arab Emirates had provided him with information that helped identify the woman as a suspect.

According to the Daily Mail, the woman was traced through a telephone number left with courier company UPS.

Investigators said that the woman's arrest was part of a manhunt for a number of suspects believed to have used forged documents and ID cards to carry out the plot.

The officials also believe that the suspects have links to Al-Qaeda's faction in Yemen.

Security officials have been on high alert since the two packages containing explosive material were intercepted.

The packages, which were being shipped by air from Yemen to synagogues in Chicago, were discovered on Friday at East Midlands Airport in Nottingham, and at a courier facility in Dubai.

The package found in the UK was on board a UPS cargo aircraft, while the other, in Dubai, was found in a FedEx sorting facility.

Security has also increased in the US, where the postal service has temporarily stopped accepting inbound mail originating in Yemen. (ANI)
