Curfew in parts of Kashmir valley
Curfew has been imposed in some areas of Srinagar city and parts of Kupwara and Banidpora districts in north Kashmir.
“Curfew has been clamped in Rainawari, Nowhatta, Khanyar, Safakadal and Maharajgunj police station areas in old Srinagar city," a police spokesman informed, adding similar restrictions were also imposed in Kupwara, Trehgam, Kralpora and Bandipora towns in north Kashmir.
These areas were specifically seen as sensitive due to previous instances of eruption of violence and widespread protests after Friday prayers.
For the fourth consecutive Friday, no prayers will be offered at the historic Jamia Masjid, located in the old city, which has also come under the grips of the curfew.
So far the situation across Kashmir Valley has been peaceful, the police spokesperson said.
