T J Joseph, lecturer victim in hand-chopping case
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 26: In a development that rises serious concerns over the process of electing leaders, a man accused of chopping-off hand of a college professor has emerged victorious in the recently-held Kerala civic polls.

Anas, accused of chopping-off hand of a college professor for preparing a question paper with alleged derogatory references to Prophet Mohamed, won from Vanchinad division of Vazhakkulam block.

He was a candidate of Socialist Democratic Party of India, the political arm of Popular Front of India (PFI), which recently hit the headlines over its alleged involvement in the hand chopping case.

Anas is currently in judicial custody and lodged in Viyyur central jail. He defeated the nearest UDF candidate by more than 1,000 votes to claim the block panchayat division in Ernakulam.

TJ Joseph, a lecturer at Newman College in Thodupuzha, was attacked in July 2010 by suspected PFI members. Anas is the 47th accused in the case.
