Kerala civic polls results: UDF overtakes LDF

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 27: While the initial trends showed a close contest between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF)and the United Democratic Front (UDF), the Oppositin Congress-led alliance seems to come up from behind to gain the lead in the Kerala civic polls.

The counting of votes in the local body elections is underway is 13 of the 14 districts in Kerala.

Results of 13 of the 59 municipalities has been declared so far. While LDF won in four municipalities, UDF has claimed Thrissur City Corporation and nine municipalities.

Out of the 38 panchayats, UDF and LDF have gained control of 18 village panchayats each. Out of 152 block panchayats, results of five have been declared so far. UDF secured three block panchayats, the LDF won two.

On the municipalities front, the United Democratic Front (UDF) has captured the municipalities of Palai and Kalpetta, besides leading in several other municipal areas.

The Opposition combine is also leading in city corporations of Thrissur and Kochi.
