Guj riots: SC lifts stay, go ahead to trial courts
By vacating the stay order, the apex court has effectively paved way for trial court to pronounce its verdict in all the cases expect the one involving the killing of Jaffrey, in which Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been questioned.
The three-judge special bench of Justices DK Jain, P Sathasivam and Aftab Alam vacated the May 6, 2010 stay on pronouncement of judgment.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is still probing and examining witnesses in connection with the case connected to the killing of the ex-Congress MP, which is also known as the Gulbarga Society case.
The Supreme Court had earlier ordered stay on the Godhra riots cases on demands for re-constitution of SIT and allegations of botched up investigation.
