Reddy Brothers to launch 24/7 Kannada news channel
According to the sources the name of the channel is Janasri and the groundwork for the channel is already started.
The idea to launch Janasri news channel was reportedly floated by Karnataka tourism minister G Janardhana Reddy and his close friend, health and family welfare minister Sriramulu.
The trend of politicians owning TV channels or newspaper is not new in India. In South India it is believed that trend was first started in Tamil Nadu more than a decade ago. Even Shiv Sena chief, Bal Thackeray has his own Marathi daily 'Samna".
Where as in Karnataka Anitha Kumaraswamy, wife of former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy launched Kasthuri Kannada Vahini news channel three years ago.
Earlier, in Jun 2010, a new Kannada news channel Samaya 24x7 was launched and it was backed by Congress Senior leader Satish Jarkiholi.
There are many other new channels in Kannada which include TV9, Udaya Varthegalu, Suvarna 24X7 and NEWS9.
