Google doodle pays tribute to Oscar Wilde
The image on the doodle was Oscar Wilde's classic Gothic horror fiction novel 'The Picture of Dorian Gray', which was published in Jun 1890 and the first and only novel published by Wilde. The work was published in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine in 1890. It was revised and published as a novel a year later.
Oscar Wilde born on 16th Oct 1854 in Ireland. After writing in different forms throughout the 1880s, he became one of London's most popular playwrights in the early 1890s. Today he is remembered for his epigrams, plays and the tragedy of his imprisonment and early death.
Oscar Wilde died at the age of 45 in Paris on Nov 30th 1900, but his legacy continues to this day, inspiring millions of writers across the world to follow into his footsteps.
