SL Prez apprises Singh on Tamil restoration

New Delhi, Oct 15: During a meeting between Manmohan Singh and Sri Lanka President, Mahinda Rajapaksa on Friday, Oct 15, Rajapaksa advised Singh about the steps taken by his government to restore Tamils.

The rehabilitated Tamils were displaced by the war between the Sri Lankan Army and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) which ended in 2009.

However, attending a meeting between Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, GL Peiris with SM Krishna on Oct 14, Peiris informed that the number of displaced people who are yet to be rehabilitated has come down from 2.8 lakh to 20,000.

According to some official sources, Singh and Rajapaksa also discussed about Sri Lankan government"s plan for political devolution.
