NYPD's mock drill in preparation for 26/11 Mumbai-style Al-aeda attack

New York, Oct 15(ANI): The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has conducted a drill to simulate a 26/11 Mumbai-style attack in the city.

The drill follows the threat of Al-Qaeda training terrorists in Pakistan to launch shootings and suicide attacks in the United Kingdom.

Before the drill started on Thursday, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly aid: "This is what we do. We think the unthinkable,"

The drill simulated an attack near Wall Street and Ground Zero, on a mock block that contained a department store, a hotel and a federal regulatory agency.

According to ABC News, it simulated multiple bombs and shooters, including a bomb under a vehicle, and police responded with helicopters, dogs, automatic weapons and an armored car.

Multiple civilians and officers were "shot" during the drill.

"We'e got some info from one of the perps that the Empire State Building might be next," one police radio crackled during the drill.

As it did, helmeted cops with M4 rifles and M14 assault rifles began stalking the street hunting snipers and assailants.

The Emergency Service Unit and the Organized Crime Control Bureau (OCCB) were also involved in the training.

The 26/11 Mumbai attacks began on November 26, 2008, and lasted until November 29 killing at least 173 people and wounding at least 308 people.

Ajmal Kasab, the only attacker who was captured alive, disclosed that the attackers were members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based militant organization.

LeT is considered a terrorist organization by India, the US, the UK, the United Nations, among others. (ANI)
