Immediately after their recue, all the 33 miners were sent to medical examination and treatment at a nearby Copiapo hospital. According to reports, some of them are expected to undergo surgery soon.
Similar to the drilling process of the weeks-long rescue operation that progressed faster than expected, the last hours of rescue was also shorter than the predicted 48 hours.
Emotions ran high not only at the San Jose Copper-Gold Mine where the kin of the miners gathered to welcome the men back, but also across the world as the recue operations were closely watched across the globe.
Chile President Sebastian Pinera was also at the site throughout the operation sharing his happiness on twitter. In a heart-touching message, the President told one of rescued miner, Victor Zamora, that he was never alone.
With the successfully completion of the rescue, curtain falls on a two-month ordeal. Now, the miners will be assisted to adjust back into normal life.
