Mumbai, Oct 13 (ANI): 'Mines to Market', the bi-annual International Diamond conference begins in Mumbai.
The conference was inaugurated by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Scindia welcomed the overseas delegations and expressed the hope that the conference would further cement ties between the Indian industry and the participating companies and countries.
Outlining India's leading position in the diamond sector, he stressed that the industry needed to enhance its marketing efforts to face the challenges from other luxury sector goods.
Rajiv Jain, Chairman of Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India said that the conference aims at establishing India as a diamond hub in the world.
"This event 'Mines to Market' is a great milestone for making India a Gems and Jewellery hub because the major stake of gems and jewellery is from diamond, where we have a leadership. Out of 15 diamonds sold anywhere in the world, 14 are cut and polished in India. And to retain that leadership and to make this diamond hub we organised this conference here," said Jain.
He further said that diamond dealers of all categories have gathered at the conference which would certainly lead to a positive outcome from the conference.
"All the stake holders from all over the world of diamond industry are here under one platform and through deliberations, conferences, presentations I see a good result coming by the end of this conference," added Jain. (ANI)
