These three interlocutors, named by the government on Wednesday, Oct 13, will essentially act as mediators between the parties involved in the Kashmir turmoil and the authorities.
The trio will hold talks with all individuals and groups including the separatists in Jammu and Kashmir so as to help the Centre and the state government take appropriate steps to bring peace in the violence-torn valley.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, who announced the names of the interlocutors, dubbed them “very credible people".
Informing that the interlocutors will begin the work immediately, the Home Minister also revealed, “We may add one more interlocutor later," he said.
Padgaonkar, Ansari and Radha Kumar were chosen by the Centre in consultation with the state government, after the decision to appoint interlocutors was taken at Cabinet Committee on Security meeting chaired by Prime Manmohan Singh on Sep 25.
