London, Oct 11 (ANI): The country estate made famous in Sir Paul McCartney's 'Mull of Kintyre' is on the market for 3 million pounds.

After more than 40 years as a family holiday home, the owners of the stunning 7360-acre Argyll estate are putting Carskiey House and its surrounding land - which together forms the famous "Mull of Kintyre" - up for sale.

The estate includes nine miles of coastline, a nine-bedroom Edwardian mansion, an assortment of smaller houses and cottages in varying states of repair and an animal population of red and roe deer, wild goats, grouse and eagles, reports the Daily Mail.

It also has McCartney as a neighbour. He owns High Park, a farmhouse near Campbeltown that he bought in 1966 and once credited with saving him from a nervous breakdown brought on by the pressures of fame.

It was during a stay there that he heard the Campbeltown pipe band in the streets. When he later composed Mull of Kintyre at High Park, he asked the band leader to come and listen to it.

The song, released in the run-up to Christmas in1977 and performed by McCartney's band, Wings, was the first single to sell more than 2million copies in the UK.

It went on to sell 6million worldwide, putting the Argyll peninsula on the map.

The estate now for sale was the seat of the MacNeills of Carskiey from the early 16th century until it was bought and upgraded in the early 1900s.

It is being sold through a company based in Liechtenstein owned by Susan and Marion Brown, whose parents fell in love with Carskiey during a visit to Scotland in 1964 and bought the estate.

It has been used as a holiday home. (ANI)
