Afghanistan keeps contacts with Taliban: Karzai

Hamid Karzai
Washington, Oct 11: Dragging an end to the speculations, Afghan President, Hamid Karzai confirmed that Afghanistan has continued unofficial talks with the Talibans from a past few days.

"Not as a regular official contact with the Taliban with a fixed address but rather unofficial personal contacts have been going on for quite some time," Karzai stated on Monday, Oct 11.

Answering to an interview, Karzai informed, "We've been talking to the Taliban as countryman to countryman, talk in that manner."

As Afganistan's former president Burhanuddin Rabbani once again elected as the new chairman of a peace council, Karzai also hoped, "Now that the peace council has come into existence, these talks will go on and will go on officially and more rigorously I hope."
