New Delhi, Oct 9: India's Athletics medal account at the Delhi Commonwealth Games has officially opened with two bronze medals bagged by Kavita Raut and Harminder Singh.
Raut, a long distance runner, won India's first athletics medal on Friday, Oct 8 in the women's 10,000 metres. She finished at 33:05.28s amid loud cheers from home crowd at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The second athletics medal came from Harminder Singh, who won a bronze medal in men's 20 km walk event on Saturday, Oct 9 morning.
In the process of winning the medal, Singh also broke his personal record of 1:24.23s, as the 26-year-old clocked 1:23.27s. Unfortunately he missed Babu Bhai Panucha's national record of 1:23.06s by a few seconds.
