5.9-magnitude quake rattles Costa Rica

San Jose, Oct 9: A 5.9-magnitude earthquake rattled Costa Rica on Friday, Oct 8, reported the Costa Rica Seismological and Volcanic Observatory.

While people across the country felt the tremors, no casualties or serious damage have been reported so far.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicentre of the quake, which was at a depth of 61 miles (98 kilometres), was 26 miles (41 kilometres) north of the capital, San Jose.

The quake was reportedly felt more by the people in the north of the country. Besides disruption of cellular services, there has been reports of no serious damage as the earthquake only caused things to fall off shelves.
