CWG: Oz sprinter Pearson stripped off 100m gold

New Delhi, Oct 8: Australian athlete Sally Pearson was on Thursday, Oct 7 stripped off her 100m gold medal after it was found that she had a false start.

The moment of pride for the Aussie sprinter ended soon when English runner Laura Turner alleged that Pearson had a false start.

Turner raised a cry when she was given the red card for false start, while Pearson who also appeared to have had a false start was spared.

After hours of argument and deliberation, the bad news was delivered to Pearson reducing her to tears.

Commenting the sprinter's disqualification, Australia Head Coach Eric Hollingsworth said he was still proud of Pearson and that she would be back to grab the gold in the 100 metre hurdles soon, reported ABC News.

Earlier on Tuesday, Oct 5, another Australian athlete Hassene Fkiri was disqualified midway through his gold medal bout in the 96kg Greco-Roman category against India"s Anil Kumar for loosing his temper.
