CWG: Paes-Bhupathi win, move to quarter finals

By Abdul Nisar
New Delhi, Oct 6: Former world No.1 tennis doubles pair Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi entered the quarter finals of tennis doubles event in Commonwealth Games on Tuesday, Oct 5.

The India duo defeated Sri Lanka"s Thangarajah Dineshkanthan and Amresh Jayawickreme, 6-3, 6-3 at the RK Khanna Stadium. Even though the Indian pair overcame their opponents, who are yet to enter the ATP ranking chart, it was not a dominated match. Sri Lankans fought well against the top seed team but their lack of experience in major tournaments became a major hurdle for them to win the match.

Bhupathi struggled with his first serve and backhand returns which gave the Sri Lankans quite a few points. Both Leander and Bhupathi admitted their weakness and praised their opponents.

Leander-Bhupathi pair is the top seeded team in tennis doubles event in CWG. Paes is also participating in mixed doubles with Sania Mirza.
