Rouvanjit case: Principal, teachers get bail
A metropolitan magistrate granted bail for the School principal, Sunirmal Chakroborty and three teachers-Gunian, Partho Dutta and David Ryan, on a personal bond of Rs 500 each.
"All the four were granted bail by the court," said the lawyer representing the teachers.
On Feb 12, 2010, class 8 student, Rouvanjit Rawla committed suicide by hanging himself, after being caned by the principal.
After his death, Rounjavit's father had filed a complaint against the principal and teachers for subjecting his son to corporal punishment.
An inquiry was started in Jun, 2010, by the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), which is an autonomous body under the Central government.
The inquiry founded that the principal Sunirmal Chakravarti and three teachers as guilty.
After this incident, the West Bengal government announced that it would form an authority where students and their parents can express their grievances about schools and teachers.
