Curfew grips Kashmir, again

Srinagar, Oct 5: In view of a protest march called by hardline separatist Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani to Kupwara district, life took another hit in the Kashmir valley as curfew was reimposed in several regions including Srinagar.

Six police stations in Srinagar, Delina, Palhalan and Sopore towns of Baramulla district and Kupwara district town along with adjoining Trehgam, Kralpora, Chotipora, Kulangam and Handwara town were put under curfew on Tuesday, Oct 4 morning.

A police spokesperson informed that curfew has been imposed in most of in Srinagar. This includes areas under the jurisdiction of police stations Parimpora on Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway, Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, Maharaj Gung and Safakadal.

Informing that the law and order situation was under control, the spokesperson added, “There has been no report of any untoward incident from anywhere so far."

Shops and business establishments in the main markets are the only ones shut as schools and colleges remained open while transport services were functioning as normal.
