Sania not to attend CWG opening ceremony

New Delhi, Oct 3: When the whole country is looking forward towards the CWG opening ceremony on Sunday, Oct 3, Indian tennis sensation, Sania Mirza decided not to attend the inauguration.

Sania's team coach, Jaideep Mukerjea informed that the march past of the athletes at the opening ceremony may affect her performance on Oct 4.

"Sania has a game on Oct 4. She is also taking part in all the three events - singles, doubles and mixed doubles. She needs adequate rest. So I can't take the risk of letting her attend the march past of the athletes at the opening ceremony," said Mukerjea.

Sania with Leander Paes would have an encounter with Saint Lucia's Stacey Nykita Roheman and Alberton Richelieu in the first round of mixed doubles on Monday, Oct 4.

Mukerjea also informed that the competitors would have to wait at the players' holding area for three hours ahead of the march past.

"In all, the players have to be there (Jawaharlal Nehru stadium) for over five hours," added Mukerjea's statement.
