Detained students in Kashmir will be released: PC

New Delhi, Sep 25: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said that the centre would advise Jammu Kashmir government to release all students detained for stone pelting and protests and to withdraw all charges against them.

Addressing a press conference at New Delhi, Chidambaram said that the centre would give Rs 5 lakh relief to families of those who were killed in the violence in the Kashmir Valley since Jun 11.

"Schools, colleges will be reopened and all detained students will be released," stated Chidambaram.

The state government would also be asked to review cases of all Public Safety Act (PSA) detainees and withdraw detention orders in appropriate cases.

"The group of interlocutors would be set up and they will hold sustained dialogue with all sections of Jammu Kashmir," added Chidambaram.
