CWG: Scot gymnast withdraws over sacking of coach

By Samyuktha
Edinburg, Sep 25: While several international athletes continue to drop out of the Commonwealth Games 2010 on health and security concerns, Scottish Gymnast Adam Cox has been forced to withdraw from the Delhi Games due to the sacking of the head coach Tan Jai En.

The Chinese-born coach, who is considered as one of the best in the world, was sacked by Scottish Gymnastics. Tan has led Scotland for 21 years but his contract was not renewed by the sports authority.

Tan failed to secure a place for himself despite two new coaching posts after a corporate review and restructuring by Scottish Gymnastics.

Speaking to the newspaper, The Scotsman, Tan said that he thought the application for the job was just a formality.

He said that he was shocked when he heard Caitriona O'Shea, CEO of Scottish Gymnastics tell him, "Sorry, but in your job interview you didn't come across clearly. Your job application is being refused."

Following this, Scotland's top gymnast Adam Cox said he was "gutted" by the development and announced his withdrawal from the Commonwealth Games 2010, set to begin on Oct 3.

"As soon as I found out that Tan was not going out, there was not really any decision in it for me. Obviously I am completely gutted. The timing could not be worse.

"I don't understand how it has all come about that, four days before a competition, the top coach in Scotland suddenly does not have a job," Adam Cox said
