Hyderabad, Sep 20: In an apparent case of love-gone-unrequited, a final year engineering student was bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat by her senior here on Sunday, Sep 20.

The murder took place in the house of the accused, identified as Sekhar Goud, at Hill Colony.

Police said that Sekhar beat the girl several times with a baseball bat, killing her. After the murder, Sekhar sent a text message to one of their common friends admitting to the crime.

While some reports suggest that the 'love angle' to the murder was still uncertain, there are reports that the accused even sent a message to another boy, who the victim was involved with, that his lover had been killed.

Sekhar had reportedly called the girl to his duplex flat to talk and sort out the problems between them.

Divya, a fourth-year student of computer science at Vignan Engineering College, has been living with her relatives ever since her father moved to Kolkata recently.

The 20-year-old girl told her kin that she was going out to meet a friend when she left the house.

“Divya was hit on her head repeatedly and she had nearly four injuries on the head,"" Vanasthalipuram assistant commissioner of police B Srinivas Reddy said.

"We suspect there might have been an attempted sexual assault. Except for the two of them no one was present in the house," he added.

When she was found, there was multiple injuries on her body. The brutal murder came to light when the accused sent SMSes to his friends, who alerted the police.

Sekhar, who was residing with his two sisters, also told his friends that he was planning on killing himself.

The accused is currently absconding.
