New Delhi, Sep 20: In a rather surprising twist to the Delhi Jama Masjid firing and car blast incident, investigative officers have come to suspect the involvement of locals.

The Sunday, Sep 19 incident not only created a scare ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2010, but also came off as a terror attack as reports of the militant outfit, the Indian Mujahideen, sending a terror threat to the Delhi Games emerged.

However, the investigating officers are suspecting the involvement of a group of youngsters or local criminals, who wanted to create a scare, after it was found that the car explosion was triggered off by ammonium nitrate and a pressure cooker, said various media reports on Monday, Sep 20.

However, the angle of terrorism has not been ruled out.

Police also informed that ammonium nitrate was used to trigger the car explosion near Jama Masjid and that no RDX or detonator was used to trigger the blast.

The Maruti 800 car, parked around 50 meters away from Gate No 3 of the Jama Masjid, exploded hours after two Taiwanese nationals, traveling in a tourist vehicle, were shot and injured outside the mosque.

The probe into the explosion has been handed over to the premier Special Cell of Delhi Police on Monday morning, an official informed.
