Home Ministry seeks report from Delhi Police in Jama Masjid shootout incident(update)

New Delhi, Sep. 19 (ANI): Taking serious note of the Jama Masjid shooting incident, in which two Taiwan nationals injured here on Sunday morning, the Home Ministry has reportedly sought a detailed report from Delhi Police.

Meanwhile, both the tourists were injured near Gate Number 3 of historic Jama Masjid in the national capital's Old Delhi area when two persons riding a motorbike opened fire on a tourist bus.

One of victims was injured in his leg, while the other in his stomach in the incident. Both individuals were rushed to Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital for medical attention.

One of the injured person's medical condition is critical, said latest television reports in the Sunday afternoon.

According to the television reports, the Commonwealth Games nations-Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia have called up at CWG security center to make inquiries about the incident and express their concern.

Delhi Police, however, has declared red alert after the shootout, informed the Joint Commissioner of Police Karnail Singh today.

Delhi Police is questioning the eyewitnesses in relation to the incident.

Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, meanwhile, has urged people not to panic as proper security arrangements were being taken in the wake of the incident.

It couldn't be assumed at present that the attack was "a terrorist activity", she added.

However, the bomb squads have reached the place of incident to search for any unclaimed and suspicious object, if lying around, said latest reports.

A car parked near the place of shooting incident, which also caught fire in strange circumstances just after the incident, has drawn security personnel's attention. (ANI)
