New Delhi, Sep.18 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Rajnath Singh, here on Saturday described Congress party as "the biggest communal party in the country" and that it should be aware of its statements and appeasement policy.

Speaking during a gathering of farmers, Rajnath Singh when asked about Central government's appeals to all sections for not provoking public sentiments on Ramjanambhoomi-Babri moque's upcoming verdict, said: "

Bharatiya Janata Party would not give any statements. But the government should be aware of the provocative statements and appeasement policy. And the Centre ruling Congress party is responsible for breaking social harmony in the country because Congress party is the biggest communal political party in the country."

A Special Bench of the Allahabad High Court will deliver its judgment on September 24 into the row over ownership of the disputed land in Ayodhya town.

On Dec 6, 1992, the demolition of the 16th century mosque had triggered widespread religious riots across the country.

While Hindus claim the land to be the site of the birthplace of their revered deity Lord Ram, Muslims have asserted their right over the same as the site of a 16th century mosque claimed to have been built by the first Mughal emperor Babur in the ancient town of Ayodhya, about 120 km from here.

It may be noted that the first suit was filed before a local court in Faizabad as early as Jan 19, 1885 when the plaintiff, Raghubar Das, sought rights over the 'Ram Chabootra' - a raised platform in front of the Babri Mosque, which was demolished by Hindu activists in 1992.

in 1955, a petition in this regard came up before the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court.

In July 1989, Babri Masjid Action Committee (BMAC) convenor Zafaryab Jilani opposed a plan for laying the foundation of a proposed Ram temple very close to the then existing mosque. (ANI)
