Ground Zero Imam says proposed mosque site not "hallowed ground"

Washington, Sept 14 (ANI): The Islamic cleric behind the proposed Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero in New York, Feisal Abdul Rauf, has claimed that the site is not a "hallowed ground" as it also contains a strip club and a betting parlor nearby.

He also claimed that he is trying to find a solution to solve the controversy that the proposed project has created.

"We are exploring all options as we speak right now, and we are working to what will be a solution, God willing, that will resolve this crisis, diffuse it and not create any unforeseen or untoward circumstances that we do not want to see happen," For News quoted Rauf, as saying.

He added that the proposed project is important because a platform is needed to amplify the voice of moderate Muslims. He further insisted that the center would be a place for all faiths to come together in mutual respect.

"The world will be watching what we do here. Let us therefore reject those who would use this crisis ... for political gain or even for fame," he added. (ANI)
