China presses Japan for release of boat captain
"The Japanese side continues to illegally detain the captain of the Chinese fishing boat. China once again strongly urges the Japanese side to immediately release him as well," the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The collision took place last week leading to an intense diplomatic standoff between the two nations.
"All the people of China... should condemn the illegal Japanese behaviour in one voice and fully embody the staunch will and determination of the Chinese government and people to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity," foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said.
The Chinese's trawler's captain has been arrested by Japan on suspicion of obstructing officers on duty. The 41-year-old captain, Zhan Qixiong could face a penalty of up to three years in prison.
The 14 crew members earlier released by Tokyo have reached China.
