New Delhi, Sep 11: To restore peace in Jammu and Kashmir, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is said to meet on Monday, Sep 13, to discuss for partial withdrawal of controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

Having divided over the issue in the earlier meeting among the Congress Core Group, the meeting will be presided by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh where the party is sharing power with National Conference.

The decision came amid indications that the government could announce some initiatives to end the three-month-long unrest in the Valley.

However Mr Antony opposed any decision to even partially withdraw AFSPA while Chidambaram is understood to have emphasized the need for some political action to break the impasse in the Valley.

Mr. Antony is believed to have cautioned that the Army should not be projected as a “demon“.
