Barwala (Haryana), Sep.8 (ANI): Several students and staff of the Maharishi Markandeshwar University in Barwala town of Haryana were injured when the bus they were traveling by fell into the Tangri River on Wednesday.
There were about 50 people travelling by the bus when it fell from a bridge into the river. It was coming from Chandigarh and headed for Mullana College.
Some people said that the bus driver lost control due to heavy rains in the region since morning.
According to eyewitnesses, at least 35 students had already been rescued till last reports arrived.
"There were about 40 to 45 students, some boys and some girls. We quickly took them out of the bus. Some people were standing here with axes. We broke the windows of the bus and took them out. The bus was coming from Chandigarh and was going to the Mullana College," said Amit, a volunteer who helped the injured.
Eyewitnesses said eight people, including the driver, were seriously injured. They have been admitted to a hospital in Chandigarh city.
Others have also sustained minor injuries in the accident.
However, the police said, four people had been seriously injured. (ANI)
