Vodafone in talks with NSN, Ericsson for 3G launch

Mumbai, Sep 6: One of the leading mobile service provider in India, Vodafone, plans to select a non Chinese vendor to provide 3G services in India.

The Vodafone Essar Limited, the Indian subsidiary of Vodafone Group Plc, plans to make contracts with Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and Ericsson for 3G equipment in India. Vodafone bagged 3G spectrum in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (East) and West Bengal circles in the May 2010 3G auction.

During the implementation of 2G equipments, Vodafone had placed order with NSN and Ericsson. The sources close to the company reported that order for the 3G equipments may also placed with them.

Earlier in Jul 2010, Marten Pieters, Vodafone Essar Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, told that the company will launch 3G services in India by the end of 2010.
