Amid sex scandal, Rooney to play Euro qualifiers

Watford, Sep 6: Despite the outbreak of a sex scandal allegations against Wayne Rooney in the British media, England striker is set to take part in European Championship qualifier.

Tabloids such as News of the World and Sunday Mirror were abuzz with reports on Rooney's sexcapades over the weekend. Rooney allegedly cheated on his then pregnant wife, Coleen, several times over the past year.

Sunday Mirror reported on the footballer's affair with 21-year-old Jenny Thompson. Rooney began meeting Jenny in Jun 2009 and their last meeting was in Manchester in Oct 2009, a month before Coleen gave birth to their first son Kai.

Neither Football Association (FA) nor Manchester United wished to comment on the scandal, which has surfaced after Rooney's lacklustre run at the FIFA World Cup 2010.

For England coach, Fabio Capello, this is the second sex scandal in 2010.

In Feb 2010, Capello stripped John Terry off captaincy over the his alleged affair with England teammate Wayne Bridge's former partner citing that the defender was not setting "an example for the young people - for the children and the fans."
