WB: Retired Army Major beaten to death

Kolkata, Sep 3: A retired Army major became a victim of mob fury in the outskirts of the city after he slapped a girl in a brawl.

Jayanta Sarkar succumbed to his injuries on Friday, Sep 3 after being thrashed by locals at Budgebudge.

Sarkar, known for his erratic temper, allegedly abused and slapped a girl in a brawl over collection of water from a public tap on Thursday, Sep 2 evening.

Enraged by this, people beat up the retired major with lathis and iron bars.

The 52-year-old, who was injured grievously in the incident, passed away on Sep 3 morning at the Budgebudge ESI hospital, DIG Presidency Range Siddhinath Gupta said.
